Position Description
Amos House seeks a skilled writer who can translate life-changing work into compelling proposals that secure funding for housing, workforce development, health care, recovery services, and homelessness programs serving thousands of Rhode Islanders each year. The Grant Writer will play a key role in sustaining and expanding these programs by researching funding opportunities, developing grant proposals, and supporting grant reporting.
Working under the direction of the Grants Manager, the Grant Writer will collaborate closely with program leadership, finance staff, and other departments to gather information, develop narratives, and communicate program impact. The ideal candidate is a strong writer who is curious, detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple deadlines while working effectively with colleagues across the organization.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Grant Research and PlanningResearch and identify funding opportunities aligned with Amos House priorities
Monitor funding trends, announcements, and requests for proposals
Maintain prospective funding and submission tracking systems
Proposal Development and Submission
Coordinate proposal development with program, finance, and leadership staff
Research, write, edit, and submit proposals to foundation, corporate, and government funders
Develop compelling narratives that communicate community need, program design, outcomes, and impact
Gather supporting documentation and ensure compliance with funder requirements and deadlines
Grant Administration
Maintain organized grant files, boilerplate materials, and submission records
Assist with narrative grant reports and other funder communications
Collaborate with the Data Manager to incorporate outcomes and performance metrics into proposals and reports
Support timely completion of reporting requirements
Qualifications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated curiosity, initiative, creativity, and exceptional attention to detail
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field
Two years of experience in grant writing, fundraising, communications, proposal development, journalism, technical writing, public policy, or a related field preferred
Demonstrated ability to write clear, persuasive, and well-organized proposals
Strong research and analytical skills
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines
Ability to work collaboratively with staff across departments and with individuals representing a variety of professional roles, perspectives, and work styles
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SharePoint; experience with grant management systems preferred
Job Type
Full-time
40 hours/week, M-F, 8-hour day shifts
Occasional nights and weekends may be necessary
Salary: $65,000-$80,000 per year
