The UCAP School: Beyond U After School Program

Who We Are

Beyond U began with the SPIRIT summer program, founded in 1984 by UCAP founder Rob DeBlois to provide Providence middle school students with meaningful educational and enrichment experiences beyond the traditional classroom. Continuing that legacy, our mission is to offer free, high-quality after-school programming where urban youth can learn, grow, explore their interests, and build confidence through enrichment, athletics, leadership development, community partnerships, and student-centered experiences. Our vision is a community where every young person has access to safe, engaging, and inspiring opportunities that remove barriers, broaden perspectives, strengthen essential life skills, and prepare students for success in college, careers, and life.

What We Do

Beyond U is a free, high-quality after-school program that provides middle school students with safe, engaging, and supportive opportunities beyond the traditional school day. Through athletics, STEM, the arts, leadership development, career exploration, community service, recreational activities, field trips, and partnerships with local organizations, students can explore their interests, develop new skills, and build meaningful relationships. Although UCAP is not serving students academically during the 2026–2027 school year, Beyond U will continue operating and expanding its programming to serve former UCAP students and students from partner schools throughout the Providence community.
