As an intentionally small school of 64 boys, San Miguel has always been a place where students feel seen and supported, and the staff takes pride in nurturing each student’s individual strengths and talents. Classrooms are engaging, student-focused and respectful. Every student has an adult mentor. Extensive extracurricular offerings provide exposure and access to programs in chess, cooking, swim lessons, crew, golf, team sports, gardening, and financial literacy. And the San Miguel Graduate Support Program guides students and families into and through high school and assists with their post-secondary educational or career plans.
Summary of Position: We seek an experienced and mission-driven educator who balances structure and expectations with care and encouragement. Due to our small class sizes of only sixteen students, the 6th Grade Teacher will have the unique opportunity to form meaningful relationships with each of their students, develop curriculum that meets each student’s needs, and support each student in their San Miguel journey.
Primary duties of 6th Grade Teacher: • Serve as the 6th Grade homeroom teacher; • Teach ELA and a skills class to 6th Grade and Social Studies to 5th and 6th Grades; • Establish and nurture an engaging and respectful learning environment in the classroom; • Develop lesson plans and instructional strategies that provide differentiated, individualized, and small group instruction to meet student needs; • Communicate with parents about their student’s progress, run parent/teacher conferences twice a year; • Attend staff meetings and occasional all-school events; • Run extended day homework help program twice a week to support student learning; • Share in meal/recess duties with the rest of the team.
Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree • 3-5 years (min) classroom teaching experience, preferably in upper elementary/middle school • Experience building relationships with middle school students, particularly those from urban environments • Effective interpersonal skills grounded in respect and compassion • Strong sense of professionalism

Compensation and benefit package includes a comprehensive medical and dental plan and the ability to participate in 403(b) and flexible pre-tax spending plans.
