Description

BACKGROUND

Reach Out and Read Rhode Island (RORRI) is a 501(c)(3) organization based in Providence, RI.  Founded in 1999, RORRI partners with healthcare providers to integrate literacy into pediatric care by encouraging families to read aloud every day.  Doctors provide a new book at every checkup from the first pediatric visit through age five, championing thepositive effects of reading daily and engaging in other language-rich activities with young children. Reading together promotes healthy brain development, furthers language acquisition, and helps families build meaningful bonds. RORRI serves almost 70 pediatric and family medicine sites across the state, providing up to 100,000 books each year.
