Turning Around Ministries (TAM) is a non-profit, faith-based organization whose primary location is in the Broadway area of Newport, RI. TAM has been providing community-based services to under-served or at-risk persons since 2005. In December of 2008, the TAM Day Center service opened. TAM is the only organization in Newport that specifically serves those returning to the community from incarceration. In addition, TAM’s services extend to many who are homeless on Aquidneck Island (where Newport is located) and, in fact, to anyone who presents a legitimate need. These services include housing, employment & transportation support, food, clothing, help with securing Social Security Cards, EBT Cards, State ID’s, Birth Certificates, assistance in applying for Federal and State Benefits, a place for people to receive their mail, recovery support, homeless prevention services, etc. In addition to our primary location, TAM opened a satellite office in the North End section of Newport in February of 2023. Our qualified and experienced staff and volunteers – which includes a Program Coordinator, Case Managers and volunteers – are devoted to helping under-served individuals improve the quality of their lives. In all the work we do, we utilize a holistic approach to address the full person and their co-occurring needs, referring our participants to other community programs with which we are aligned.
What We Do
TAM provides supportive services to under-served populations who will be returning to or are currently living in Newport County. Potential clients include presently incarcerated persons, persons recently released from prison, ex-offenders, homeless individuals, and others who may have social/legal/financial issues. The case manager will work out of the TAM Day Center in Newport.
