Who We Are
DownCity Design (DCD) is a non-profit community design studio located in the West End of Providence. Since our 2009 founding, DCD has nurtured the creative potential of Providence youth, guiding 3,800+ participants through free afterschool and summer design programs. Together, these young designers have created 120+ permanent community amenities all over the city —from community gardens and outdoor classrooms to imaginative play structures that enliven public parks.
What We Do
DownCity Design (DCD) empowers young people to strengthen their communities by harnessing the creative power of design. In our free afterschool and summer programs, at-risk Providence teens become changemakers by designing and fabricating beautiful and functional service projects to make public spaces more welcoming, accessible and resilient. Our participants learn that they have the power to positively impact their environment, while developing essential skills for success in school and beyond.
