St. Mary Academy – Bay View seeks a creative, collaborative, and student-centered educator to serve as a part-time Upper School Art Teacher. The part-time Upper School Art Teacher will teach a range of visual arts courses and support students in developing both foundational and advanced artistic practices. Potential courses may include Digital Photography, Ceramics, and Foundations of Art & Design. The ideal candidate will foster artistic exploration, creative confidence, and technical skill while supporting students in a studio environment grounded in mutual respect, curiosity, and growth.

Key Responsibilities
- Teach Upper School visual arts courses, could include Digital Photography, Ceramics, and Creative Process II;
- Develop engaging, developmentally appropriate curriculum that encourages creativity, artistic risk-taking, and critical thinking;
- Incorporate art history, contemporary artists, and design concepts into instruction in meaningful and accessible ways;
- Foster a classroom culture that promotes respect, collaboration, and artistic growth for each student;
- Support students in the development and curation of portfolios for exhibitions, college submissions, and digital presentations;
- Prepare and display student work through matting, photographing, scanning, and
exhibition preparation; - Maintain and manage studio spaces and materials, including ceramics equipment and supplies;
- Operate and oversee the ceramics studio, including kiln loading and firing, clay recycling, wheel throwing, and hand-building processes;
- Collaborate with colleagues within the Visual Arts Department and broader school community; and
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues regarding student growth and progress.
Qualifications
- Experience teaching and working with a broad range of 2D and 3D art media;
- Experience creating inclusive, student-centered studio environments that support a range of artistic abilities and learning styles;
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and digital photography/photo editing;
- Knowledge of portfolio development and presentation practices;
- Experience maintaining a ceramics studio and operating related equipment;
- Familiarity with art history through contemporary art and design;
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; and
- A collaborative mindset and commitment to supporting students as artists and learners.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree required;
- Master's Degree in education, fine arts, or a related field preferred; and
- Previous teaching experience preferred.
