Come be on a Boat during WaterFire and be a part of the art! You will receive a safety speech from the Captain/First Mate before we head out! From there you will be part of the lighting procession, then every 20-ish minutes you will place logs onto braziers to rekindle fires, reload firewood into the boat from under bridges, and work with fellow crew members to uphold the artistic integrity of the installation. This is a quiet performance, symbolizing the affect and influence of a community when individuals work together.

NOTE: You will be very close to the fires in order to gently place the logs into the brazier so they continue to burn throughout the evening.

Help build the braziers (metal baskets on the river) that will set the city alight at sunset. You will get the chance to hop aboard a WaterFire wood boat and help artistically construct the braziers. You will use cardboard, newspaper, and other fire fuse materials in the center of the brazier and build a 'tepee' of firewood around the fire fuse materials. After all braziers on the river are built, you will help reload firewood into the six wood boats for the evening feeds. Afterward, enjoy lunch with your crew and the WaterFire staff. Visitors to WaterFire can “wish upon a star” of their own at this magical installation in Memorial Park where large blue paper star lanterns are nestled in the treetops of this dark and dreamy grove. Volunteers are needed to help welcome visitors, assist in hanging stars, and placing Luminaria lanterns where they are needed. This is a quiet, yet busy location; volunteers can expect frequent interactions with visitors.

Thanks to generous community support, we provide free backpacks, school supplies, and other essentials for Providence students every fall.

Special Ops volunteers are one part ceremony leaders and one part crowd control -- and they get the best seat in the house. Our torch processions vary in size from 16 torches to a couple hundred, and they are always different. Some celebrate Chinese culture, some honor veterans or cancer survivors, and some remember local history. Being a Special Ops volunteer helps us ensure these processions go off without a hitch.

We are headed to Moshassuck Industrial Highway on the Pawtucket/Lincoln border again to tackle the rest of the mess! We are teaming up with Cozy Rhody and NETTTS to cleanup on this road and in the area. We will meet on Moshassuck Industrial Highway (not actually a highway) and get started from there. Community service hours are always available!

We've got plenty of supplies, so the only thing you need to bring is yourself!

We recommend long pants and boots as we frequently find ourselves off-pavement and in tall grass and ticks can be a concern. Please be aware that other risks such as poison ivy and bees nests may be present. Stick around after - we'll grab a bite or a coffee somewhere. There are 3,500 cemeteries in RI and many of them need raking, pruning and general maintenance.  I can find a cemetery near your home.

 Brayton Cemetery is a 7 acre Cemetery located in the City of Warwick, the village of AApponaug.  We will be raking, trimming bushes, and pulling weeds. Please bring a rake, clippers, and gloves.

Maintenance Volunteers help us with general maintenance work at the House. Our volunteers assist with general repairs, painting, plumbing, yard work, etc. This is a flexible volunteer position - with most volunteers scheduled mornings on weekdays. We ask for a one year commitment from all volunteers. 

House volunteers help with cleaning/housekeeping, checking families into their rooms, organizing donations, office work, greeting visitors, answering phones and general tasks for the House.  Because of the time involved in training new volunteers, we ask for a one-year commitment to volunteer. Shifts are four hours on weekdays: 9a.m.-1p.m. and 1p.m.-5p.m.

One of the services that the Ronald McDonald House Charities of New England - Providence provides to families of hospitalized children is a hot evening meal 365 days a year. We are looking for volunteers to purchase and prepare healthy, nutritious meals at our facility for the families staying at the house.  Volunteers prepare meals for 28-30 people, all food is purchased by the volunteers and prepared at our facility to be served at 5 PM daily. We are seeking compassionate adults willing to share time with our hospice patients and their caregivers. Hospice volunteers complete a comprehensive training on end of life issues, bereavement care, communicating with compassion, confidentiality and interdisciplinary care teams.

Volunteers with special talents in sharing music, expressive arts, Reiki sessions or pet therapy are welcome.

Grant writer and researcher for assist with finding and writing grants for our basic human needs and education programs, as well as our operating.  Strong written and verbal communication skills a must.  Successful experience in grant writing and reporting is a plus.  

A help line where residents of Rhode Island seeking basic human needs assistance such as food, clothing, heat, rent, etc. call to be referred to the SVDP conference that takes care of their location.  Volunteer/s needed to staff the phone during office hours Monday through Friday.  Shifts can be 8 hour shifts from 8:30a.m. to 4:30p.m. or 4 hour shifts (8:30a.m. to 12:30p.m. or 12:30p.m. to 4:30p.m.).  Responsibilities would include answering the phone, referring individuals to the appropriate location for assistance, and taking a brief intake on a computer, etc.  Training will be provided.  Must be able to climb stairs.

Docents are needed to conduct tours for the public of Smith's Castle, a structure built in 1678.  Greeters are needed to staff the main meeting room where tour-goers assemble and accept payments.  Training and costuming provided.  If interested, docents can also participate in youth education programming both on premises as well as in schools.  Background checks are required.

Time commitment:  two 4-hour shifts (noon to 4 p.m.)  per month from May through mid-October.  

Must have ability to climb stairs.

Judy's Kindness Kitchen is a weekly soup kitchen run completely by volunteers.

We are preparing food and dropping the food off at Crossroads and Emanuel House.  

Food preparation is on SUNDAY, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 am at the Jewish Community Center, 401 Elmgrove Avenue.  Please park and enter at the rear of the building

Please be aware: the JCC kitchen is Kosher so we ask that no outside food be brought into the JCC.

Hospice volunteers provide a range of support and companionship to patients who are facing end of life and to their family members. Whether going to visit, lend a helping hand, play cards,  provide a listening ear, read to or simply be a quiet presence so they are not alone, hospice volunteers are specially trained to connect with patients in their homes.  

Some volunteers provide their support out of the office of Hospice Care at the VNA of Care New England in Warwick.

The Empowerment Factory’s Family Art and Literacy Nights will take place at elementary schools in Pawtucket on Wednesday nights. Set up starts at 5pm and program runs from 6:00pm- 7:30 with breakdown until 8pm

The Empowerment Factory will be doing Family Art and Literacy Nights at a variety of Pawtucket elementary schools. Team members need to be at the location by 5pm to set up. This event will have music, food and other fun activities.

Volunteers will be needed before and after the event to help set up tables, food, and put out supplies, and then to break everything down and pack up.

During the event, volunteers will be needed to assist with the various children’s art activities. Volunteers will also be needed to assist at our information table, where families will stop to learn more about The Empowerment Factory, enter a drawing, and get supplies.

This fieldwork position involves monitoring, tracking and reporting on the condition of Audubon's public and private land holdings. Navigational training will be provided, but applicants should be comfortable with traversing unmarked forest in various weather conditions.

CASA volunteer child advocates needed!

You can make a life-changing difference for an abused or neglected child!  The RI Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children program (CASA) is constantly seeking volunteers who can give 8 - 10 hours a month to provide a voice for children in DCYF care who are also represented by the CASA program.  Due to COVID-19, we are not running our usual schedule of in person trainings, we are considering dates for future trainings at this time.  Safety considerations are always paramount.  

CASA advocates within the court system for children who, through no fault of their own, find themselves involved with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) and the Family Court.   CASA works on behalf of children's best interests, to prevent them from falling through the cracks of the child welfare system that was put in place to help them.  Our volunteers are the eyes and ears of the court, visiting with children, reporting on their well-being, and ensuring that they receive necessary services.

Volunteers must complete background checks and a personal interview, in addition to the 30-hour training program. After training, volunteers are sworn in by the Court and work with CASA attorneys for the duration of their selected case.  Our volunteers play a unique role in a child's life, often becoming the only consistent adult in a child's life while their case is open in Family Court.

To become a mentor you must be open-minded, non-judgmental and open to diversity (race, ethnicity, culture, religion, class and sexual orientation).  With the emphasis on building a long-term mentor relationship, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island provides the essential training, tools, and guidance needed for success.  BBBSRI encourages no- or low-cost activities and also provides a free monthly activity open to all matches. Our matches meet between 8-10 hours a month.

Meals on Wheels is actively seeking volunteers statewide to deliver meals and provide a brief wellness check to our homebound clients. We are looking for a volunteer weekly landscaper.  Mow and weedwack lawn.  Lawn mowing takes approximately 1.5-2 hours and weed wacking takes 4 hours.

Clean stalls, sweep barn, set up night feed and water. clean horse paddocks and refill horse water troughs.

help finish clearing acre of land to build our indoor riding arena.  We have several large trees that need cutting down.  We also have some smaller trees left. 

Brush can be burned on burning days so do not need to remove that.

All wood can be taken for firewood or what ever you can use it for.

We have two new percheron horses that are 13 and 6yrs of age that we rescued.  They are very green.  Their feet were in terrible condition and we are working on getting them healthy again.  In the mean time we need to start a regular training program for them to be broke to ride.

We are looking for 2-3 days a week for them to be worked for 1.5-2hrs

Help us with our fundraising initiatives.  Everything we do for our service members, veterans and their families we do for free so we have to find ways to raise funds to pay for these services.  We have events, merchandise, apply for grants, etc.

Our events center around building community and elevating self-esteem while having fun.  Our creative and energetic Events Committee Members come up with event ideas for fundraising and for opportunities to spread our mission of turning obstacles into opportunities within our community.

What do Committee Members do?

Create an environment for fun and success

Attend bi-monthly meetings, not more than once a month, held both live and online

Work with the organization's current budget

Create a funding plan with a comprehensive event timeline

Coordinate and support the flow of information/communication between the other committees and the Board

Assist with collection of donations for fundraising opportunities

On the day of events:

Communicate all changes to facility managers and committee chairs

Address all challenges in a timely manner

APRI is looking for part-time front desk and administrative support at its main office location in Providence. Duties include answering phones, assisting with office tasks, and helping greet clients who are arriving for appointments or for HIV testing, as well as other special projects. Support is especially needed on Monday and Wednesday mornings between 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and Tuesday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Familiarity with HIV, health, and LGBTQ issues is a plus, as are general office skills, including standard software knowledge and more. Sales from the Thrift Store directly support our ability to assist clients through our food pantry and emergency financial assistance.

To assist with various on-site work projects in maintaining, improving & renovating building space in downtown Providence. The work projects may include painting, renovating, repairing parts of the building. Looking for licensed individuals who are skilled in specific areas such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical and willing to do work as in-kind donation.

The Board of Directors are responsible for ensuring RIBBA’s long-term financial stability and integrity. Directors set the strategic plan and ensure that the organization fulfills its mission by accomplishing high quality work. The Board of Directors recognize that in order to foster the organization’s continued vitality, sustainability and diversification of income sources, they must pledge to personally contribute needed resources and talents towards this end. 

Time Commitment 

Approximately 4 hours per month for meetings or other board related activities.

Giving Policy
Board Members are required to pay their member dues annually. Yearly, each Board Member is asked to consider making a minimum of $1000 either through personal contributions; contributions from an employer, colleagues or family; or through ticket sales to Annual Awards Gala or other RIBBA events. 

Absences
Absence from three consecutively scheduled meetings in one calendar year of the Board of Directors (Except for emergencies beyond the control of the Board Member) will constitute an automatic resignation from the Board of Directors.

Term of Services
The initial term of office is for one year. This is a renewable term for a total of two or three years.

Compensation
Board Members will not receive any monetary of in-kind contributions in exchange for their services.
