Who We Are

The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School’s mission is to enrich and transform our community through great music performance and education. Our vision is to provide performances and education programs of exceptional quality that are relevant and accessible to all individuals and communities, and to continue to be a model for other orchestras who seek to do the same. Throughout our 80-year history, the RI Phil has served our diverse community. We are the largest combined professional orchestra and community music school in the nation, and the only professional orchestra to value artistry and education equally! Our core values include quality, access, diversity and inclusion. We believe all people living in our community have a right to attend exceptional performances and to receive a high-quality music education.

What We Do

RI Phil serves over 135,000 individuals annually across the region. The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra (RIPO) reaches audiences through our TACO Classical Series, Amica Rush Hour Series and Open Rehearsals, all held at The VETS in Providence. We also perform popular artist, theme and film concerts at The VETS and the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) and give free Summer Pops Concerts at venues around the state, including Roger Williams Park in Providence, Slater Park in Pawtucket and Narragansett Town Beach in Narragansett, RI. Finally, RIPO performs with and for thousands of elementary school students each year at The VETS and virtually through Link Up. The Music School serves over 1,000 tuition-based students through music lessons, classes and ensembles weekly at the Carter Center in East Providence, where we deliver over 25,000 hours of instruction each year and more than 15,000 individual private music lessons! Our Community Partnerships Division provides subsidized and free education programs directly to more than 15,000 children each year in partnership with educators in more than 100 P-12 schools from virtually all Rhode Island communities.
